In the Thomasine Church, Illuminism is extremely important. Instead of implying religious tradition, Thomasines believe that Illuminism is more philosophical. The word Illuminism implies enlightenment and a logically sound understanding of the world, society and its reality.
The Thomasines believe that the wisest of all people have realized that the true aim of humanity is to attain wisdom, the Light of Truth. However, the only way that an individual can find the path to wisdom is a specific combination of knowledge and understanding.
Once the mind is awakened and intuitive, the individual will be able to accurately and open-mindedly examine reality to determine universal truths. This begins a shift from what is called the Fictitious Mind to an Awakened Mind. This shift is called Metanoia. Once these truths are revealed to the individual, the consciousness is elevated, and a revelation occurs. |
